Summary of the project:

FEMMAR is a research project funded for three years (2009-2011) by the Region Pays de la Loire. It focuses on the evolution of the role and the status of the women involved in maritime activities.
Such a project implies as a preliminary, the diffusion of questionnaires and the realization of investigations. This stage will make it possible to check its quantitative and qualitative interest, before the results will be exploited and conceptualized. In addition, it requires a multi-field dimension (researchers in law, geographers, economists, philosophers and sociologists) and European dimension.

During the first year of the project a questionnaire will be diffused among the women working in the different professional maritime activities. This survey aims to take stock of women’s place and will be carried out on a national scale. It should provide food for thought about obstacles and constraints they encounter and ways to remedy them.

During the second year of the project, and following the examination of the questionnaires, our team will carry out a field work based on recorded interviews with those which wish it .

During the third year of the project, the interviews will be used for the realization of a DVD, an international conference in Nantes and the publication of a work intended to drag attention of general public on the role of these women.
